At ScorpionTrack, it’s important to us that you get the most out of the tracker you choose, and that the subscription plan you’re on works for you and your needs. We know that understanding tracking solutions can be daunting, and the process in choosing which one works best for you can feel overwhelming – but we’re here to help.
In this article, we’ll be exploring the different steps to take to ensure that you’re choosing the right tracker and subscription plan for you and your vehicle. Whether that’s an insurance approved tracker, or one you install yourself – we’ve got you covered.
Here’s what you need to know…
Why do you want a tracker?
A tracker is an important security solution to any vehicle – but many customers choose to install them for different reasons. The first step in choosing the right tracker is to understand why you’re getting one fitted.
Insurance premiums benefits – Some insurance providers will lower their premiums if you have a tracker installed, as this provides the vehicle with recovery technology that can be utilised in the event of thefts. Additionally, some insurance providers (vehicle dependent) will require a Thatcham- Approved tracker to be installed before insuring you.
Peace of mind – It’s as simple as that, people want the peace of mind that their vehicle has been upgraded with anti-theft tracking technology which supports
them in the event their vehicle gets stolen. Having a tracker fitted allows customers to take back control against thieves and provide vital information to the police about the location of their vehicle, whilst also knowing where it is at all times.
Now you know why you want a tracker, it’s time to look at your vehicles’ compatibility
Step 2 in choosing the right tracker for you turns our attention to your vehicle and the requirements of some of our trackers. It’s important that your vehicle is compatible with the tracker you choose to have installed, there may be some limitations in place that you need to be aware of.
- Electric Vehicles – Some of our trackers aren’t compatible with electric vehicles. If you own an electric vehicle, please speak to a product specialist before completing your purchase.
- Age of Vehicle – The age of your vehicle will depend on the type of tracker you can purchase and get installed. Some older vehicles may struggle with the installation process. If you have an older vehicle, please speak to a member of our team for further assistance on which tracker is best for you.
- Price and Model of the Vehicle – The value of your vehicle is a contributor to which tracking system will work best for you, especially in terms of insurance. For vehicles on the higher end (£50k+), some insurance providers will require you to have a tracker fitted as per their insurance policy, and the Thatcham Approval Category will be important in this process. There may be a minimum Thatcham Approval Category needed to be insured, make sure you know the minimum level of approval needed as this will change with tracker works for you.
- Entry Process into Vehicle – If your vehicle is single key or fob entry is also a leading factor into which tracker works best for you. Some of our trackers come with key-cloning protection which means your vehicle isn’t the only product under protection, your key fob is too.
You’ve checked your vehicles compatibility – let’s talk subscriptions
For your tracker to work, you need a subscription. This can be set up in 3 different methods:
