- Fiat Swift Edge 486 S-A (motorhome) – recovered in Nottinghamshire, valued at £52,000
- BMW X3 xDrive 30e M Sport – recovered in West Midlands, valued at £27,500
- Toyota Hilux – recovered in London, valued at £25,500
- Nissan Navara – recovered in London, valued at £20,000
- Land Rover Discovery – recovered in South Yorkshire, valued at £20,500
- Doosan Crawler Digger – recovered in South Wales, valued at £15,000
The breadth of vehicle types targeted this month shows that professional criminals are not limiting themselves to one category. Prestige cars, commercial vans, leisure vehicles and plant machinery are all on the radar.
THEFTS SPLIT EQUALLY BETWEEN DAY AND NIGHT
Using a daytime window of 6am to 5:59pm and nighttime from 6pm to 5:59am, May’s data showed an even 50/50 split between daytime and nighttime vehicle thefts. Criminals are operating with equal confidence around the clock – targeting vehicles at business premises and roadsides during the day, and on residential streets overnight.
The Metropolitan Police Borough responded to the highest number of vehicle theft incidents this month, with recoveries also taking place across Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, South Wales, Greater Manchester and Gwent.
WHERE THEFTS OCCURRED IN MAY
Vehicle theft continues to affect owners across every part of the UK. May’s data highlighted a clear spread from north to south.
Key theft areas in the North:
Blackburn, Lancashire saw a Nissan Navara stolen from a residential street. Sheffield, South Yorkshire recorded the theft of a Land Rover Discovery from an Industrial Estate. Leeds, West Yorkshire also featured, with a Volkswagen Transporter taken from near Leeds City Centre.
Key theft areas in the South:
London was the most active area for vehicle theft, with incidents across Sutton, East London and other boroughs throughout May – including a Toyota Hilux and a high-value Lexus LM 350H. Worksop, Nottinghamshire saw a Fiat Swift Edge motorhome stolen from dealer premises. South Wales recorded the theft of a Doosan crawler digger and a trailer from near Cardiff.
